DENIM, LEATHER AND ROCK’N’ROLL. CHANGE OF CULTURAL PATTERNS IN FASHION

The text examines two cultural phenomena: musical genre - rock and the style of dressing, which consists of jeans and leather jacket. A process lasting for over 50 years is described in which protective clothing of the motorcyclist, a young man, a representative of the American lower class lost its functional meaning and relation to the original environment, and took symbolic meaning on. In the further part of the text, on the basis of song lyrics, of interviews submitted in the music press and of observation, an analysis of heavy metal music fans subculture is being conducted. That group could be recognized as the last stage of the process being described so far. Crucial factors affecting the course of that process were a development of media and of the record industry and musicians acted as authority. It is possible to look at the connections of the rock with the fashion in the three ways: the rock itself may be a fashion, it can also be a subject of fashion, and the medium of fashion transmission as well.

EMOTIONAL AND PERSONALITY CORRELATES OF AGGRESSIVE TENDENCIES AMONG HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

In order to explore emotional and personality context of aggressive tendencies 147 high school students (17-19 years old) were tested with Psychological Inventory of Aggression Syndrome by Zbigniew Gaś, K. Mudyń’s Feelings Reality Inventory and a short method of personality testing, the 10-Item Big Five Inventory by Beatrice Rammstedt. As a result of the study, a significant relationship between experienced emotions and aggressive tendencies has been established. Moreover, the severity of aggressive tendencies is more associated with a reduction in positive feelings than with the intensification of negative feelings. Negative correlation between sense of security and aggressive action has been established. On the other hand positive correlates of aggression include such feelings as: pride, distrust, indifference and boredom. Emotional basis of aggressive tendencies plays more important role among girls than among boys. However, the intensity of retaliatory behavior, covert aggression, aggression directed outwards, and total aggression rate occurs stronger in the group of boys.

Andrzej Podgórski
PICTURE OF SOCIAL LIFE THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUNG POLISH IMMIGRANTS

This article aims to take a look at the vision of social life of both Poland and Western Europe countries, through the eyes of young, migrant Poles. It presents the results of a research based on W. Łukaszewski’s scale-a device studying social reality in terms of positive and negative influence on personality development. This is the first research to focus on the vision of a country different from Poland. Young migrates are in a peculiar situation, in a sense that, contrary to young Poles questioned so far, they have had the chance to face at least two various social worlds. This enables them to confront these worlds. Whereas vision of social life of countries where migration took place remains relatively positive, it is not the case with Poles. Their opinion of Polish reality is low. The mere estimation relies on diverse variables-the text deals with a few most crucial ones, along with the impact they have on vision of social life.

PRACTICE ATTENDANCE - STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS SEE-ACTOR IN THE THEATRE OF THE SICK AND MENTALLY DISABLED

Following paper is an attempt to investigate strategies of building presence by spectators of theatre created by mentally ill and disabled people. As an example two spectacles are described: Pronouns or everyone wants to be someone performed by “Chameleon” group form Łódź and Colas Breugnon by integrating theatre “Euphorion” form Wrocław. In the paper three ways of realising a role of spectator in such theatrical event are pointed out: spectator against actor, normal person against disordered person and me against you. Each of those ways has certain consequences regarding sensations of comfort and adequacy also covered by the text. The realisations based on social and/or theatrical conventions are connected with certain role tensions. Dialogical thinking seems to give optimal response to those tensions as discussed in last part of the paper.

RADIO DRAMA IN THE ERA OF "NEW RADIO". THE MODERN WAY OF THE EXISTENCE OF THE AUDIO THEATRE AND ITS STATUS

In the last couple of years there has been an increase interest in emphasizing the aspect of dynamic transformation of the global media environment due to the digitalization. Without doubt, from the sole fact of entering this new era that all other distinctive qualities of the present media landscape derive. On the wave of these events also the sound medium shows its new face. It has resulted in important changes that apply to principal radio genres. The main objective of this article therefore is to present the current situation of one of them – radio drama. Consequently, this paper explores the ways of its existence, explains how works of art belonging to this genre have modified their form and character to become so called “audio drama” and satisfy the nowadays listeners’ needs as well as discusses the current status of the radio theatre. It also tries to assess whether radio dramas, traditionally ascribed to “old radio”, still have a unique place in mass media system and can play as crucial role in the development of modern culture as in the Golden Age of Radio.
