Nauczyciel w szkole jako „culture broker” (pośrednik kulturowy) wobec uczniów obcokrajowców

Joanna Kapica-Curzytek

Abstrakt

The article is about foreign students who attend the Polish schools. As a consequence, there arise problems regarding cultural, religious and race differences. The Polish school system does not have too much experience in this field. The author shows examples of solutions in Germany, Denmark and the USA, which can inspire the Polish teachers. Coming into personal contacts with foreign students is an exceptional form of intercultural education. The participants are: the immigrant students, their classmates and all teachers in the school. The teacher has a special role in this process: he or she is a culture broker for the newcomers and for the other students in class (explaining them the culture of the foreign student). The teacher must be prepared to build relationships with “the Other” skillfully. Therefore, it is desirable that teachers have high level of intercultural competences.
