Abstrakt


In the present article we would like to show some educational phenomena the only ethnic school in Poland for Romani children. The result of case study research, conducted in Parish Primary Romani School in Suwalki (2007) revealed growing multicultural consciousness among teachers, less Gypsy stereotypes and prejudices and group of Romani children with positive attitude to school organization and requirements. Some essential problems, such as ineffective social policy, issue of economic hardship of many Romani families, the barriers of adaptation in school still exist in Suwalki, but owing to the headmaster Jacek Milewski and his team teachers awareness of cultural diversity became something obvious and it is now easier to communicate with Romani pupils and their parents without the necessity of fencing from the Polish society and our school system. Doubtless, some methods worked out in Romani school should be popularized in educational policy for national and ethnic minorities.
